Awards
We all know someone who has gone out of their way to make us feel special. Here is your chance to honour a postman, nurse, teacher, neighbour, community organisation, relative or friend who makes Sheffield a brilliant place to live in.
This year there will be 10 awards to celebrate the champions from across all walks of life in Sheffield. Nominations open on 1st July 2008.
The closing date for nominations is 5:00pm on Friday 26th September 2008
Sheffield's Braveheart Award - This champion is overcoming or has overcome life's challenges with courage, laughter and determination. They turn obstacles into opportunities. They are Sheffield's true heroes.
Sheffield's Best Schools Worker - Everyday, these classroom assistants, teachers, lunch-time supervisors, tuck shop assistants and caretakers are dedicated in raising young champions. They see potential, put no limits on children, and pour their lives into this generation.
Sheffield's Best Queen and/or King of Customer Care - Do you know a shop assistant or call centre advisor who goes out of their way to make your day? What about a bus driver who says good morning and always remembers your stop, or maybe a parking attendant, waiter or receptionist that always make you smile because they are happy and helpful? Then tell us who they are.
Sheffield's Best Investor in Children - This kids' club leader has a genuine love for children. Their devotion to providing the best dance class, scouts troop, after school club, or youth group is second to none. Where do you find them? Walking the extra mile.
Sheffield's Best Secret Angel - This volunteer is someone who selflessly helps others without looking for reward or recognition but certainly deserves it. Whether they are running a community group, giving time and energy helping charities raise money, shopping for the elderly, walking the dogs at the local shelter or running the local neighbourhood watch, they are dedicated to making people feel great.
Sheffield's Best Community Organisation - We want to honour an organisation that pours itself into its local community. They are helping people to become champions.
Sheffield's Best Carer - They have hearts of gold, always putting the interests of others before themselves. These nurses, nannies, doctors, midwives, foster carers, and nursing home workers are always putting a smile on our faces and brightening our day.
Sheffield's Best Spring Chicken Award - This awesome senior citizen doesn't want to settle down! Achieving qualifications, volunteering and making a difference in their community . these Sheffield heroes are not shy and retiring!
Sheffield's Child of the Year 2008 - A child that is overcoming or has overcome adversity with a smile and resolve to succeed, embracing today and the future with renewed hope.
Sheffield's Lifetime Achievement Award 2008 - This person truly is a hero. They have spent years pouring their lives into others and endeavouring to make Sheffield a better place. They have influenced many through their achievements and their life. They may not have been recognised for their work but they have truly made a difference to others.
